Greetings New Mexico Pioneers,
It is with great pleasure that I am able communicate with you through this web page provided by Qwest. There is so much that I would like to tell you about.
Let me first thank all of you for your dedication and perseverance on all the good work that you have accomplished. The variety of projects that all of you have undertaken is immeasurable. The list includes projects like A Book About Me, Talking Book Repair, Hug-A-Bears, Electronic Maps, Pre-school Vision Screening, but it does not stop here. It now has grown to include; Daffodil sales to benefit Presbyterian Hospital; shoes and socks for needy children; food collections for the needy on Thanksgiving; toys for needy children on Christmas; and the list goes on and on. Sage –N- Cactus club in Albuquerque has a yearly $500.00 scholarship fund that they have supported. Jinglebob club in Las Cruces hold a Cowboys for Cancer Team Roping Event, which has raised over $300,000.00 since it started and last year alone raised over $42,000.00 This year and for the past several years the Chapter has contributed a new saddle to be included as a prize for one of the team roping events. The Manzano club has continued to support the Boys and Girls Ranch for the past several years. This year, as in the past, our Qwest Chapter has been called upon to support the Ronald McDonald House Charities, with a joint contribution from the AT&T and Lucent Pioneers that support a room at the Ronald McDonald House in Albuquerque.
These are wonderful accomplishments that have proven over and over, that Pioneers have made and continue to make a difference in their communities.
Now let me tell you, that we are off to another great year. At a Region event last year, I was introduced to a new project that I believe will benefit many
seniors and victims of domestic violence. This new project, Emergency-911 Cell Phones, has been started in other states in our Region and has become a big success. I trust that we can also make it happen in our state. There are so many new projects that Pioneers across the country have been engaging in. Please keep me informed of your new projects, no matter how small it may seem to you. Always remember, Pioneers are making a difference.
Let me tell you of some of my plans during my term of 2003-2004. I will be making an effort to visit all the clubs not only meet with many of you but to also hold membership drives at all of your clubs. I am also planning a Chapter fundraiser this fall. Additionally, I will be reporting through these web pages on our up coming events and thing of special interest. Schedules of Chapter and club events along with meeting information will be included.
I hope this letter finds all of you in good health.
Thank You,
Peter Boccuzzi
