Greetings from the Iowa Telecompioneers.  As state president, I would like to share with you some of the projects Pioneers and their partners are involved in across Iowa.

1)     “Caring Cards” – Pioneers are signing greeting cards to be taken to various care centers within our communities.  “Birthday”, “Get Well”, “Thinking of You” cards are given to residents to help brighten their day.

2)     “Beeping Easter Egg Hunt” – In April, an Easter Egg Hunt was held at the Vinton Braille School.  Students found beeping eggs and received prizes and an Easter Egg Basket.

3)     “Readers for Life” Reading Project – Over 500 books were given out to students at Cattell Elementary School in Des Moines.  These books will provide students with the necessary reading skills needed for their future success.

4)     “Food Drive” – The Pioneers will partner with Qwest to collect nonperishable food items for local food banks throughout Iowa.  With some of our communities still suffering from the 2008 flood and the down turn of the economy, our food banks play a much needed role in our communities.

5)     “U S Map” Project – Later this summer the Pioneers in Cedar Rapids will be painting maps of the United States on play grounds of several schools.  We will also be doing other projects at Taylor School which has been closed this school year due to the flooding of 2008 but will be reopening this fall.

6)     “Support Our Troops” – In October, Qwest employees and the Pioneers will partner to collect items to be sent to family members serving over seas in our armed forces.  Last year items were collected in Waterloo for two soldiers of Waterloo employee families.

These projects are just a start to what we can do to help in our communities. Please let us know if the Pioneers can partner with you on your community projects.  By combining resources, we all can have a greater impact on helping those with needs.

Please contact me to learn more about either becoming a Telecompioneer or participating in one of our projects and/or having Pioneers help in your community projects.
