Welcome to
Auraria Council
The Auraria Council of Qwest Pioneers is a volunteer network committed to providing rewarding community service experiences for members, fellow employees, and Pioneer partners. We continue to "answer the call of those in need" within our communities while at the same time increasing team building skills, and promoting the spirit of volunteerism within our employee base. Auraria Council is comprised of current Qwest Communications employees based in the Denver Metro area of Colorado. The board of 2010 has a vision to directly impact underserved communities in a positive way. We are excited about new venues we are pursuing.
Our project list is continuously evolving but here are a few of our current projects:
Sponsorship of a rest stop on the MS150 Bike Ride
Partnered with USTA Colorado Tennis in community diversity projects such as Black Arts
Festival and Colorado Dragon Boat Festival
After School Homework assistance using Chess or Tennis as instruction as incentive
Christmas Outreach with Adopt a Family and Christmas Stockings
School Aid to Denver inner city schools
Denver Day of Impact with Metro Volunteers/JA in a Day (Junior Achievement)
Easter Egg Hunt for blind and visually impaired children
Habitat for Humanity, Miles for Miracles
Mother's Day Flower Distribution to Senior Centers
Adopt a Street cleanups
As much as we welcome new members to join the Pioneers, we also welcome new projects and volunteers for existing projects. Please feel free to submit your questions and ideas to Sylvia Johansen.
Monthly Meetings
The Auraria Council meets on the third Thursday of each month and anyone is invited to attend. The Council and Project Leaders plan for upcoming events as well as discuss ideas for new projects and we would love to hear from you. The meetings start at 11:30 and are 60 minutes or less in length. Contact Sylvia Johansen for the meeting location and/or conference bridge number. Bring your ideas! Bring you energy!
